Bungee daredevil in Oresund Bridge jump

Authorities in Denmark are considering whether to press charges against a Swedish man who surreptitiously stole onto Oresund Bridge and performed a bungee jump. The daredevil, who is calling himself ‘The Bridge Indian’, is the first person ever to jump from the towering construction.

The bridge, which connects Denmark and Sweden by a twin-track railway and a dual carriageway, is the longest road and rail bridge in Europe.

“This is very serious. It is absolutely forbidden to bungee jump from the Oresund Bridge,” said bridge spokeswoman Sanna Holmqvist in a report by Politiken. “First of all you’re not allowed to stop a car on the bridge as it’s a motorway, and secondly there’s the whole security issue. We have 200 cameras scanning the bridge, but nonetheless he managed to jump,” she admitted.

According to Homlqvist, the bridge authorities often receive requests from people wanting to perform stunts on the structure, which reaches 204 metres at its highest point. She said, however, that due to traffic safety issues, such requests are always denied.
