A man has been sentenced to 18 years behind bars in Sweden after stabbing his daughter 53 times in a so-called honour killing. Subhi Othman was sentence by Nykoping District Court on Monday after admitting to the grave crime in November last year.
Police found Othman’s 21 year-old daughter curled up in the foetal position at the bottom of the stairs after he handed himself into the police. He had killed her in a frenzied knife attack, claiming in a police interview that he could think of no other solution as she was living an “indecent lifestyle”.
Othman is thought to have become angry with his daughter after her husband filed for divorce last year. There were also rumours of infidelity, according to tabloid newspaper Aftonbladet.
The woman was killed in her parents’ house after she and her three year-old daughter moved from Gothenburg to Katrineholm following the split from her husband. The court concluded that the brutal murder had been premeditated.
