iPhones freezing up in Finland

Despite boasting the latest in mobile phone technology, it seems iPhones are not equipped to deal with the weather of Finland. Apple has reportedly received countless complaints from people in the country who have found their latest gadget underperforms in freezing conditions.

Apple claims that the optimum operating temperature for the iPhone is between 0 and 35 degrees Celsius, and warns that using the handsets in colder conditions could shorten battery life or stop the device working altogether. Finns who were not directly informed of this before buying their iPhones may, however, be entitled to a refund, according to the country’s consumer ombudsman.

Temperatures in Helsinki sit below freezing for around four months a year and often reach as low as -20 degrees Celsius. Finland’s Consumer Agency has reportedly received many questions from people having trouble with their iPhones and is compiling a list of concerns to send to Apple.

It is hoped that the discussion will establish how the device functions in cold weather and if customers in Finland are routinely warned about defects. It is also hoped that Apple will offer a full refund to anyone who purchased an iPhone under false pretences.
