Female soldiers plead for fireproof knickers

underwearFemale soldiers in the Swedish army have renewed their calls for fireproof undies after 30 years of waiting.

Despite being part of the country’s armed forces for several decades, female soldiers in Sweden have been cross-dressing in men’s protective underwear lest they expose their flammable civilian panties and bras.

The female soldiers had previously been assured by the military that their wait for flame resistant delicates would be over by spring this year—but as yet, no fireproof finery has been forthcoming says The Local.

“Each battalion has been given money to buy underwear for women, but since there are still no flame resistant alternatives available they have had to make do with civilian bras and panties,” said Swedish Conscription Council’s Katja Adolphson,

Adolphson, who holds responsibility for armed forces related matters within the Conscription Council, confirmed that the underwear wait was wearing thin. “We’ve been in a rush for the last thirty years,” she added.

In the meantime, female soldiers will continue to run the risk of smouldering smalls until such time as authorities provide them with something less comfortable to slip into.

“How are women in the army supposed to feel fully welcome? It’s a form of indirect discrimination,” Adolphson stated. “Nothing has been designed with women in mind. All the sizes are too big: from boots, protective vests and shirts to the shoulder straps on our AK5 assault rifles”.

According to Adolphson, women currently make up approximately five percent of the Swedish Armed Forces’ uniformed combatants. “But I would expect this figure to rise once they get better at giving us what we need,” she reasoned.
