Icelandic fashion designer unveils new line in London

Icelandic fashion designer Steinunn launched her 2008 collection at the Air Gallery in London last week, reports Vogue.com.
“I have a background in knitwear so everything I create always has something to do with texture,” said Steinunn. “Everything I do is reminiscent of Iceland – it’s who I am. The starting point for this collection was an Icelandic plant which then developed into the print used on one of the dresses.”

The Ambassador of Iceland, Sverrir Gunnlaugsson, also came to the show to see the designer’s talent for sharp tailoring and clever ornamentation.
A ‘waterfall’ blouse with tumbling folds were shown off next to a pebble print dress – Steinunn’s favourite because “it has Iceland in it”.
Steinunn has worked with names such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Tom Ford at Gucci before becoming director of her own company.
