President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson says he needs time to consider a 30,000-strong petition he was handed yesterday asking him to carry on as President, and that he will let the world know later this week or early next week whether or not he will stand for a record fifth term in office.

Icelandic party renews calls for former minister prosecution, while former PM may still get off

The chairman of the Icelandic parliament’s constitutional and supervisory committee has said she thinks it is not unlikely that the country’s proposed new constitution will be put to a national referendum.

New direct democracy website opens in Iceland

A new website called Betra Island (Better Iceland) was formally opened in a tent outside the Icelandic parliament building on Wednesday.
