Finnish police: major jewellery heist was a professional job

The robbery of a Helsinki jewellery store in January last year was a professional heist, local authorities have confirmed. Three suspects are now in the custody of the Helsinki District Court, according to reports, although the stolen jewellery worth over EUR3m has yet to be recovered.

The news comes nearly two years after the burglary of the Malmi Jewellery Store in northern Helsinki, which  authorities describe as the largest jewellery store heist ever to take place in the Nordic country.

Police officials told the media that they are still looking for two additional suspects who are part of a gang of “dangerous international criminals”. Investigators said that the crime was intricately planned and well executed.

The three individuals already in detention are males aged 37, 38 and 43; one is a citizen of Estonia, whilst the other two reportedly have “no nationality”.
