Glymur waterfall in Iceland

Hiking in Iceland – destination Glymur waterfall

Those looking to experience the hidden gems of Iceland by hiking have a wide variety to choose from, but none compare to the beauty of one of Iceland’s tallest waterfalls, Glymur. As part of a day hike lasting roughly 6 hours, an experienced guide from TREK Iceland leads visitors through magical scenery that encapsulates the other-worldly beauty of the country.

The hike begins in the valley of Botnsdalur in the deepest part of Hvalfjördur (Whale Fjord). The trail takes hikers through deep canyons, mountains, lava fields, a birch forest and a small cave before coming to the majestic waterfall. At an impressive 198 meters in height, the clear stream of water plummets down moss-covered rocks, to land in a stream that continues flowing through a narrow canyon. With hiking paths leading to all angles of the waterfall, the photography opportunities are endless!

Hikers continue on to Thingvellir National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage site as well as the location of the world’s first democratic parliament and the meeting place of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

While keeping explorers safe during the trip, the experienced and knowledgeable TREK Iceland guides will teach hikers about the geology and history of the land. Transportation is included in the 7.5 kilometer day hike and a check list of what to bring for the trip is available on the website.

As a leader in Icelandic trekking tours, TREK Iceland offers year-round hiking tours throughout the country, with a team of experienced guides, for all skill levels. To find out more about the Glymur Waterfall day hike and a variety of other tour packages, please visit the website.
