Icelandair flight struck by lighting

A bolt of lightning struck an Icelandair passenger plane flying in to land at London’s Heathrow airport during a thunderstorm last night. The incident was caught on video from the ground in London and has circulated the media today.

The flight from Reykjavik to London was approaching Heathrow airport at approximately 8.30pm when it was hit by the lightning but it somehow managed to getaway intact. At least two other flights, a plane flying to City Airport from Edinburgh and a flight from Prague into Heathrow is thought to have been hit by lightning as well. Passengers aboard the flight were startled as a bolt of light hit the plain with a loud noise. The pilot then emerged from the cockpit and explained the incident and calmed the passengers.
