Reykjavik Arts Festival in Iceland kicks off today

Reykjavik Arts Festival, IcelandListahátið, the annual Reykjavik Arts Festival in Iceland, kicks off its fun packed schedule today with over 60 events to follow that represent all artforms from Icelandic artists and also artists from abroad. The Icelandic festival is one of the oldest and most respected arts festivals in Northern Europe.

The 2010 festival will be taking place between May 12th and June 5th at numerous locations in the heart of downtown Reykjavik. This year’s program offers a range of concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions, dances and operas. Artists from all over the world shall be attending and participating in the festival this year. Among the countries represented are Mali, United States, Finland, Spain, Norway, Scotland, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Morocco, and Lithuania.

Amadou & Mariam will open the festival this evening with their uplifting live show. The band recently played for Barack Obama at his Nobel price ceremony in Oslo, and has also worked with many artists such as Coldplay, Damon Albarn, Scissor Sisters and David Gilmour.

In addition to all this, for the convenience of visitors to the festival, one of Reykjavik Art Festival’s main partners this year will be CenterHotels.
