As IceNews reported yesterday, protesters succeeded in preventing Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde from appearing on a Stod 2 television show broadcasting live from a hotel in downtown Reykjavik on the 31st of January.
Today, a group of protesters called „The People’s Voice“ will attempt to hand Arni M. Mathiesen, Minister of Finance, a declaration prepared by the group. The content of the document has not been disclosed, but it’s very likely to be related to events related to the financial crisis and Mr. Mathiesen’s decision to appoint as a judge, the son of a prominent figure within the Minster of Finance’s own political party, The Independence Party.
Confounding the controversy of this appointment, the judge in question is the son of David Oddsson, former PM and present Chairman of the Board of Governors of Iceland’s Central Bank.
The Peoples Voice has been actively staging protests since 11th of October last year in relation to the situation that caused the collapse of the Icelandic banks.

Thanks to share this. Would be great if i can do that also ;-)
They appointed the Son of the person that misused the bank money as a Judge ,what next? give his grand children automatic award as finance ministers in advance?, same old clowns running the show, it’s like a mafia click!
The committee that viewed applications decided that þorsteinn Davíðson was not the most qualified person to apply for the job, 3 people were ahead of him but Árni Mathiesen who was acting minister of justice for this task made the decision to hire him, people here want Árni to resign because of this, of course he will not do that.
Ólafur Börkur Þorvaldsson was apointed judge of the supreme court 1. september 2003, 2 applicants were considered more qualified for the job, but Ólafur is Davið Odssons uncle so..
Björn Bjarnason made this decision, when he did he broke laws on Gender Equality, he said it was old law and absolete.
Geir H. Haarde acting minister of justice hired
Jón Steinar Gunnlaugsson 29. september 2004 as judge for supreme court. Jón Steinar is a old friend of Davíðs Oddson
5 other people were considered to be more qualified
9 judges viewed the applications and 8 of them agreed but 1 put Jón Steinar in 1 place,
that judge was Ólafur Börkur Þorvaldsson :)

Why is the finance minister appointing judges anyway?
This appointment just goes to underline the fact that the general population of Iceland has been and still is being screwed.
The sad thing is that all the protesting in the world aint gonna change a thing as those hanging on to power know only too well !!
bob.
Lovely, just lovely. One of the men that should be brought to trial for what amounts to criminal use of the banks moneys, gets his son appointed as a judge. What a shock! Perhaps if he is brought to trial his son will be the presiding judge. Of course the son will claim no conflict of interest and promptly rule that the state has failed to make a case.
For the love of whatever Icelanders hold dear, get a few politicians that do not belong to the same family or group. Are there any that excists?
