Icelandic Althingi Parliament says yes to Icesave

The Icelandic Parliament, Althingi, says yes to Icesave33 MPs voted yes to the Icesave Bill, 30 said no. The voting lasted over three hours and was at times fierce and personal. It is now up to the Icelandic president to sign these bills, and with that make them law. The president, Mr. Olafur Ragnar Grimsson is under pressure from over 35,000 Icelandic voters who have signed a petition asking him not to sign the controversial laws.

After results became clear, the Finance Minister and leader of the Left-Green party Steingrimur J. Sigfusson said that history would judge the decision to be the right one.
