Authorities in the northern Finnish city of Oulu have warned citizens to be wary of fake police officers after impersonators entered an elderly women’s apartment last Sunday.
Police suspect that two men between the ages of 40 and 50 are impersonating police in Oulu’s Ranta-Kastella area, and have advised citizens that police must show an official badge when requested to do so.
The two men are believed to have been allowed into the woman’s house after informing her that they were police officers. They allegedly then inspected the apartment before leaving without taking any of her possessions.
The suspects spoke fluent Finnish, but it is not known if they were from Finland. They both had short, dark hair and were dressed in dark clothing. One of them was wearing a beret.
Police are investigating the men on suspicion of impersonating an officer, breaching the domestic peace and attempted theft.
