Swedish footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reportedly rejected the chance to dine with King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden and French President Francois Hollande.
The forward plays for top French team Paris Saint-Germain, and is due to meet King Carl and his wife Queen Silvia when they visit the club’s foundation, which funds sporting projects for the youth of socially deprived regions of France.
However, the controversial star is believed to have turned down the chance to eat with the royal couple and President Francois Holland at the president’s plush Elycee Palace. Despite being given the chance to dine on the finest French cuisine and wine, Ibrahimovic has said it is more important he prepares himself for upcoming his upcoming matches.
Paris Saint-Germain are sitting in second place in the French league, a point adrift of early pacesetters Marseilles. They will play Nantes this coming weekend before a trip to Barcelona in the Champions League next Wednesday.
Sweden’s royal couple will be in France from 2-4 December in an official state visit. In addition to meeting with President Hollande, they will also attend a climate and energy conference, meet leading business leaders and economists, and visit the country’s hub for aerospace research, Toulouse.
