NorthSide 2014: Arcade Fire announced as headline act

arcade fireCanadian indie band Arcade Fire has been announced as one of the headline acts for the NorthSide Festival in Denmark next year.

The Quebec group, whose fourth studio album Reflektor was released last week, have enjoyed a rapid rise to fame since releasing their debut album, Arcade Fire, 10 years ago. They are now one of the world’s biggest alternative groups and NorthSide organisers will view the deal as a major coup.

Reflektor, which features a guest appearance from David Bowie and has ex-LCD Soundsystem singer James Murphy on production, entered the UK album charts at number one at the weekend.

Among the other acts that performed at this year’s festival were Arctic Monkeys, The Flaming Lips, Band of Horses and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. NorthSide, which is Denmark’s second largest behind Roskilde, was held over three days and drew more than 25,000 fans.

The first NorthSide Festival was held in 2010, when it was a one-day event, and featured five Danish acts: Veto, Turboweekend, Selvmord, Nephew and Mew. A year later it was held over two days and attracted international acts including Suede, The Streets and The Vaccines.

Next year’s festival will take place between 13 and 15 June in Århus.
