The mother of a baby found dead this summer in a Reykjavik rubbish skip has now been charged.
The state prosecutor yesterday announced its charges against the mother of a baby which was found dead in a rubbish skip outside Hotel Fron on Reykjavik’s main shopping street this July.
The case went to the Reykjavik District Court on Monday and was cleared for trial yesterday. The state prosecutor was reluctant to give journalists details about the precise charges laid against the woman; but it is known that she is suspected of having put the baby in the skip herself, possibly already dead, shortly after giving birth in one of the hotel rooms.
The woman is from Lithuania and has been prohibited from leaving Iceland since the police investigation began.
