Obama adviser to give lecture at University of Iceland

Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond, a respected professor and adviser to US President Barack Obama, will give a speech at the University of Iceland this week. The lecture is called Education and Teaching in the 21st Century.

The lecture is part of the series of special public lectures held to celebrate the University of Iceland’s 100th anniversary. The university is celebrating its birthday all this year and September’s events are particularly focused on educational science. Dr. Darling-Hammond’s lecture is the opening lecture in a wide-ranging programme of events throughout September, Visir.is reported.

In her lecture this Thursday, Dr. Darling-Hammond will explain the importance of re-thinking and renewing the work of schools and the entire school system for the 21st Century.

As part of her distinguished career at Stanford University School of Education, Dr. Darling-Hammond has found herself at the leading edge of educational reforms being carried out by the present Obama administration in Washington DC and has worked personally with the President. She is an editorial adviser to many magazines and journals and has written over 300 articles on education, as well as more than a dozen books.

This Thursday’s lecture begins at the University of Iceland at 15.00. Open to all.
