A cyclist and singer from Britain is uniting his two hobbies in unique style for his charity bike ride around Iceland. And he’s not doing it the easy way.
Daniel Hutton is an enthusiastic choir and solo singer and cyclist who is riding his way around Iceland this month and next. Cycling around Iceland is not as uncommon as it once was — and nor is doing it for charity. However, Hutton is doing things a little differently…
Firstly, he is not just sticking to the Route 1 highway. Instead his journey will take him many hundreds of extra kilometres around the whole country; including the Snaefellsnes peninsula, the Westfjords and the eastern fjords.
Secondly, Daniel Hutton is singing his way around Iceland. He does not want to waste his sponsors’ or his own money on hotels every night and is instead calling on people all around Iceland to provide him with dinner and a bed for the night when he comes to their town or farm. In exchange, he promises a private solo concert for his hosts!
All proceeds of the journey will be split between the Harrogate charity Carers’ Resource (which supports unpaid carers in their valuable work) and the Reykjavik charity Ljosid (which helps rehabilitate cancer patients).
The singing cyclist plans to complete his tough journey in around eight weeks, by the end of September. He set off on Monday.
