Football’s international governing body, FIFA, this week revealed its latest rankings for international women’s teams.
When the last list came out in March, Iceland was ranked joint 16th with South Korea, RUV reported.
Since then the South Koreans have added a few points to their rankings and Iceland lies in 17th position.
The top five women’s football nations remain unchanged. The USA is number one, followed by Germany and Brazil. The newly crowned world champions, Japan, are ranked the world’s fourth best team and Sweden is number five.
On the Europe-only list of top female football nations at the moment, Iceland ranks number nine.
