Free online Greenlandic language course launched

Since its release a year ago, Sermersooq.dk has received over 10,000 visitors. The website provides Danish – Greenlandic, Greenlandic – Danish language courses for beginners. Now it will be available for free to everyone.

According to Ebbe Kristensen from the Danish Greenlandic language group, to celebrate the site’s first anniversary the Danish Greenlandic language group has decided to release the whole language course to anyone who might be interested in learning to speak Greenlandic or to improve their Danish pronunciation.

The course can be downloaded for personal computers and passed to friends and family on either: Sermersooq.dk or here.

Unfortunately the course is only suitable for people who understand Danish or Greenlandic to start with — however a good quality online Danish translator may be helpful enough to help non-Danish speakers start learning Greenlandic. This website run by the University of Iceland may also be helpful, as it lists words in all the Scandinavian languages, as well as Greenlandic and English.

The course has also been released to private companies and public institutions if they want to offer it to their employees. The course is free, Ebbe Kristensen reiterated to Semitsiaq.ag.
