The Icelandic government will hold a cabinet meeting today in Isafjordur. It will be the first time an Icelandic cabinet has ever met in the Westfjords region and one of very few meetings to have taken place outside Reykjavik.
The meeting will take place in Edinborg House at 14.00. Among other government business, the cabinet will focus on the employment and economic problems facing the Westfjords and on the recently-announced project to reverse the region’s fortunes.
“Before the cabinet meeting, government ministers will visit the University Centre of the Westfjords where they will be introduced to educational and economic development issues and the research institutes working in the region and following that, the government will meet with local councillors from the region concerning the intended economic development co-operation,” a statement from the Prime Ministry reads.
