A 300kg boulder fell on a moving van last night in West Iceland. Police are warning of more falling rocks during the spring thaw.
It was extremely lucky that nobody was hurt in the freak accident at around 01.00 this morning. The 300kg stone fell on the van as it was travelling Olafsvikurenni on the Snaefellsnes peninsula.
The vehicle suffered severe damage to its wheels, tyres and bumpers. Police and other drivers co-operated to remove the car and the rock from the road, and people are urged to be on the lookout for other big rocks on Icelandic roads as the spring thaw brings softer soil and plenty of rain.
