Swedish SD politician accused of racist behaviour while visiting Iceland

The press secretary of the youth section of the controversial Swedish political party Sverigedemokraterna (SD) was thrown out of a bar while visiting Reykjavik during a Nordic council meeting in Iceland.

Aftonbladet reports that William Hahne was asked to leave the bar Olstofa in central Reykjavik after having been accused of throwing a glass at a bartender and shouting rasict remarks regarding the bartender’s palestinian background. Several guests at the bar testified that Hahne was heavily intoxicated and that the incident occured when he was about to order a glass of wine from the bartender.

Despite having written a formal apology for his behaviour to the owner of Olstofa, Kormakur Geirhardsson, Hahne denies having thrown a glass or having made racist remarks.

Sverigedemokraterna made it into the Swedish parliament in September’s parliamentary elections. They are mostly known for their harsh stance on immigration and are often accused of being racists.
