Icelander dies by electrocution in Latvia

A 29 year-old Icelandic man has died in an accident in Riga, the capital of Latvia. Initial reports are that he was electrocuted at an electricity substation.

Some 170 Icelanders are currently in Latvia on a mission with the Icelandic tourist board. The group arrived in Riga late on Thursday evening.

The deceased man, who was travelling with his colleagues, was alone at the time of the accident, reports.

The 29 year-old man was from Hafnarfjordur and leaves behind a fiancee. His name has not yet been released by police.

The Icelandic ambassador to Finland and the Baltic states is now involved in the case and will help police research the cause of the accident.
