A United Airlines passenger jet en route from London to San Francisco had to land at Iceland’s Keflavik International Airport this weekend due to smoke in the cabin.
The Boeing 777 was carrying 285 passengers across the Atlantic. Nobody was hurt and the plane landed safely in Iceland.
Morgunbladid reports that ground crews quickly located the source of the smoke in the air conditioning system; but because the law states that airline crews need a certain amount of rest, passengers were not brought straight back to the airport from their Reykjavik hotels.
The plane and passengers spent nearly a whole day in Iceland, but were able to complete their journey later on Sunday.
