Iceland particularly harsh in criticism of Israel aid ship attack

ssur-skarhéðinssonIcelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs Ossur Skarphedinsson told media last night that Iceland criticises Israel’s deadly attack on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla much more harshly than many other nations.

The Icelandic parliament’s foreign affairs committee held an emergency meeting on the issue earlier in the evening. Members of the Iceland-Palestine Association were invited to the meeting for the first time in the association’s 23 year history and the Minister Skarphedinsson also attended. Skarphedinsson said afterwards that Israel’s crime against the citizens of the Gaza Strip was “shameful”.

The parliamentary committee will meet again today and Iceland’s national parliament will hold an unscheduled debate on the Israeli attack this morning, RUV reports.
