Icelandic musical two-piece at Swedish festival this week

tuppltittleSaga Sigurdardóttir and Margrét Bjarnadóttir will be a part of TUPP, an international performance festival i Uppsala, Sweden. This will be the first ever performance for saga&magga in Sweden.

PRETTY BASSIC is created by Saga Sigurdardóttir and Margrét Bjarnadóttir in collaboration with composer Úlfur Hansson. It is a choreographed concert for two bass guitars, two dancers, loud speakers and a huge amount of smoke. saga&magga is a new young group from Iceland within reach of International success.

They both graduated in 2006 from the ArtEZ Dansacademie in the Netherlands, and have since then worked as freelance performers in different contexts, in Iceland and elsewhere in Europe. The company is based in Reykjavik, where they have made various works in collaboration or independently.

PRETTY BASSIC was created in and inspired by the elemental surroundings of the deserted Galtarviti lighthouse in the Westfjord mountains of Iceland, and premiered in Reykjavik Dance Festival in Iceland in September 2009.

Finally, TUPP 2010 is here! When all the easter eggs are found it’s time for the latest, the craziest and the most gorgeous performances. Legendary Laurie Anderson, new exiting PRETTY BASSIC and a favourite from last year, Mette Ingvartsen, among others are here with brand new pieces. And that’s not all. Music, dance and performance in a perfect mix for four spectacular days. Welcome to TUPP 2010!

PRETTY BASSIC will be performed the 7th of April 2010.

There will also be an artist talk with saga&magga earlier the same day.
