The tour company Borea Adventures in Isafjordur in Iceland’s Westfjords and the Arctic Fox Centre in neighbouring Sudavik are the first Icelandic companies to become part of the 1% For the Planet initiative.
The Initiative was started in 2001 by two Americans and the movement is made up of companies pledging to donate at least one percent of sales towards active efforts to protect and restore the natural environment.
Since its inception, 1% For the Planet has raised over USD 42 million and counts over 3,000 businesses among its ranks, RUV reports.
Borea Adventures, which offers adventure sailing trips out if Isafjordur on a 60-foot sailing yacht, and the Arctic Fox Centre, which is a research and exhibition centre dedicated to Iceland’s only native land mammal, have both decided to expand their operations this year.
One part of this will be the inception of arctic fox watching trips with experts from the Centre in the Westfjords wild and unspoilt countryside.
