MPs who sit on the Scottish Affairs Committee of the British parliament in London have been advised against visiting Iceland as part of their research mission into the global recession.
The Scotsman newspaper reports that it was the British ambassador to Iceland who personally made the recommendation to the committee that its members postpone their planned fact finding mission to Iceland at least until after the Icesave referendum on 6th March.
A Scottish National Party member of the committee said the ambassador gave Iceland’s political instability as a reason for postponing the trip. But the British Foreign Office has rejected this claim and the Committee’s chairman agreed; saying the recommendation was made solely out of courtesy for Iceland’s referendum process, according to Visir.is.
“I take it you have to drink a bottle of Brennivin to build courage before eating.”
Not all of us, i have seen 3 year old kids eating Shark so rotten it would make the toughest men cry without showing any expression on their faces and ask for more, they dont get any Brennivín to wash it down with :), the smell is a bit strong, but if you can ignore it the taste is very good.

I’ve mentioned before, that I have family connections in the Western Isles, a former Viking colony. They still seem to share the desire for unusual tasting food!

British MP’s are much safer here in Iceland than they are in UK,
this is just a political game,
its their loss, they miss out on Thorri who started yesterday,
thats the time of year when we get to stuff ourselfs with rotten shark, jellyed ram balls, whale fat, sheep faces and other delicacies,
the best time of the year.
When Switzerland was about to hold a referendum on banning the building of Muslim minarets, did the British Foreign Office advise non-Muslim British MPs not to visit Switzerland out of courtesy? Of course not. That would have been political correctness gone mad. No different for this current restriction on British MPs travelling to Iceland.

I think this is just crazy. Of course the MP’s from British Parliament would be welcome to come visit Iceland anytime. We need more dialog on this, if we are ever going to solve this problem, not less.
Sorry Alexander – the second link which I thought related to leaves was actually about soil. The wrong kind of which is also an endemic problem for us.
However leaves are difficult.

But I would ask Icelanders to have a little sympathy – we can’t all live in Norway.

Alexander – Yes we have had snow, but it was the wrong kind. As has happened before.

The UK is unfortunate – for example we also have the wrong kind of leaves occasionally.

I fully expect the Scottish Affairs Committee, to decide that the situation in Dubai is of more importance to the UK than Iceland, and reschudule their fact finding junket – sorry mission.

Aha! They are scared!
Little more pressure, little more snow over there – and UK will surrender! :))))
