Discussions continue between the Icelandic and Brazilian governments, who are attempting to draft an official agreement on prisoner exchange between the countries. If the agreement comes into force, Icelanders currently in custody or serving prison sentences in Brazil could have the option to return to Iceland to finish their sentences.
According to Ministry of Justice information reported on MBL.is, the contract does not depend at all on how Brazilian judges sentence the Icelander arrested at a Brazilian airport last spring with six kilos of cocaine. Overall, there are 16 Icelanders in custody or prison overseas.
Where do they plan to put these Icelanders that broke the law in foreign countries? The Icelandic prison is already overfilled, so no room to put them there.
The Kaupthing and Landsbanki bankers have crossed Brazil off their list of possible places to go.
