FARC Swedish arms surprise Stockholm

bullet-holesThe retrieval of Swedish-made weapons from Colombia’s FARC rebels has bolstered Colombian claims that FARC have been receiving help from Venezuela and prompted Sweden to investigate.

The anti-tank rocket launchers were sold to Venezuela in the 80s but were recovered recently in a raid on a FARC camp. FARC is listed as a terrorist organisation and Venezuela strongly denies the claims, describing them as an attempt to harm the Venezuelan people.

Swedish officials are working with Colombia to establish how the weapons fell to FARC given that no Swedish company has ever sold arms to Colombia and that any intentional Venezuelan involvement would constitute a breach of the end user licence agreement and could jeopardise any future military trade with Sweden, BBC News reports.
