Fosshotel has interest to replace Valholl at Thingvellir

thingvellirAccording to Thordar Sigurdsson, chairman of the Fosshotel chain in Iceland, they have an interest in building a hotel in Thingvellir, the national park and a UNESCO site in Iceland, roughly 45km east of the capital Reykjavik.

Hotel Valholl was completely burnt and destroyed into ruins and rubble Friday night after a fire which was started in the kitchen. Thordar Sigurdsson says that it is important to just have any hotel at Thingvellir.

However, the Icelandair hotel chains, including Hotel Edda, do not show any interest in building a hotel in Thingvellir National Park, but rather just outside of the grounds near Hotel Hengil, according to  hotel CEO Magneu Hjalmarsdottir.
