For years one of Iceland’s most visited websites, Ja.is has recently been redesigned and is now as comprehensive and easy to use in English as in Icelandic.
Icelanders have long looked to ja.is to give them information about individuals and companies all over Iceland. But the new, improved version of the website offers services in English for the first time – as well as a tranche of other extra features and tools.
Among the new services the website offers is the option to see all results plotted on useful and highly detailed maps of Iceland which can be used to pinpoint the exact address of every business and person in the registry with the user’s choice of street map view or high-res satellite photo view.
The maps can be printed off and taken away for use as personalised and highly accurate street maps. The maps on ja.is use GPS locator technology to give incredibly accurate results.
Alternatively users can get contact details conveniently sent to their email software’s address book as a vCard – thus eliminating the need for pen and paper, or a good memory.
All entries in ja.is are carefully categorised to allow specific searches as well as more generalised ones. For example, using a general search, it is just as quick and simple to find a hotel in the Westfjords as it is to find out that there (unfortunately) is not yet an Indian restaurant in the East Fjords.
Ja.is also features a detailed map with important travel and leisure services: golf courses, police stations, fuel stops, hospitals, restaurants, hotels, campsites, swimming pools, golf courses and fishing sites are all conveniently plotted on maps for the traveller.
