58 percent of participants in a recent Frettabladid poll said they want strip shows to be made illegal in Iceland. Overall, 73.8 percent of woman wanted the dances banned and 42.7 percent of men.
There was a large difference in responses from people supporting different political parties, mbl.is reports. Nearly 70 percent of Social Democrat and Left Green supporters wanted the dances banned, 56 percent of Progressive Party supporters and 36 percent of Independence Party supporters.
FISY: The monopoly came because of pressure from Spain. In 1922 they threaten high tarriffs on import of Icelandic salt fish into Spain — big market — if Iceland did not permit Spain wines in.
So Icelandic answer was to have government agnency handle that. And the current system of Vínbúðin monopoly born.
SURE FISY, BUT TODAY YOU CAN BUY ANY KIND OF WINE OR ALCOHOL FROM ANY COUNTRY. SO ACTUALLY VINBUÐ AND THE MONOPOLY DO NOT MAKE SENSE ANYMORE…
IT IS VERY ANOYING, NOT ONLY THE PRICES, BUT ALSO THE OPENING TIMES… WHILE IN EUROPE YOU CAN GET YOUR BEERS ANYWHERE IN ICELAND YOU HAVE TO WAIT AND GO THERE AS IF YOU WERE AN ALCOHOLIC AND THEN YOU SEE LOTS OF ALCOHOLICS GOING THERE TO BUY THEIR “SKAMMT”… SÓRLEGT!!
WHAT WE NEED IS NOT RESTRICTIONS, WHAT WE NEED IS CHEAPER PRICES AND THAT EVERYONE WITH THE RIGHT AGE CAN BUY AND CONSUME WITHOUT THIS TO BE A PAIN IN THE POCKET.
PEOPLE DRINK AS MUCH AS THEY CAN WHEN THEY CAN… THIS RESTRICTIONS JUST MAKE PEOPLE WANT TO DRINK MORE!!
Well Øystein, if the norwegian people are happy with it I will be the last to criticize this monopoly. If norwegians really want to pay much more than necessary for their alcholic drinks , I will not stop them. If norwegians feel that this is the right way to go, then OK, let’s keep up the monopoly.
I am however a bit surprised that many norwegians, once they come to the EU, where such a monopoply does not exist and where it is possible to buy alcoholic drinks at a fraction of the norwegian prices ,will immediately indulge in buying and drinking as much as they can.
LOL. where did you find this link, it is in dutch, can you understand it?
Offcourse Holland is famous for its wooden shoes, here you can see the production of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fhb6XfB9z9w&feature=related
You can see it in the open air museum in Arnhem (a really nice place btw)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9epnkfWkdc&feature=related
My old grandfather knew how to make these wooden shoes and when he was between 80 and 90 years he drove to the museum nearly every day from Utrecht, dressed up like a dutch peasant and made these wooden shoes.
He did not really need the money (he was quite well to do and he wasn’t even dutch) but he liked a chat with the tourists!
> Niels – and in Norway “Vinmonopolet has had an exciting and engrossing history. Its creation, for instance, was virtually imposed on the Norwegian government by France in order to ensure stable distribution of wine to all parts of the country.”
People and are in fact quite satisfied on how the Wine Monopoly works. The private institution BI (Norwegian school of Management) – does each year a study/reserch on how satisfied people are with different brand/companies – Vinmonopolet – was nr 4 i 2008.
You can see the scores her.
http://www.kundebarometer.com/index.php?content=nkbres2008&criteria=tilfredshet
You are wrong on home brewery (making alchohol) – those who do that, mostly look at it as an tradition. If there was free distribution of alchohole in Norway, this would surely have riced.
Home production of Beer and Wine is fully legal – we are not allowed to sell it freely.
There are more than 230 private importers in Norway – they also have to sell through the VM.
…
As I go to Amsterdam soon – I have done some research. I have heard about the shoes you use – is this the right type and where can I buy them?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mwxE7Ky5hs
Hi Fisy,
Interesting, I did not know about this. However, other scandinavian countries (Denmark excepted) do have such Vinbud systems too.
I have the impression that scandinavian gobernments want to regulate the lifes of their citizens and try to prevent alcoholism by restricting access to it.
Now,basically this is a good idea but it just does not work like this I think, since people will find other ways to get these products/servisces in a less legal manner.
Banning striptease is something similar.
Such interference into the lifes of citizens goeds even further than what the EU does :-)
BTW I found icelandic ‘black death’ really good stuff and Iceland could do well by exporting it to the EU.
Hi Niels,
The things that you does do when are young. :) But it was just plain mean to urinate on it. You mother would not be proud you.
But it just shows that without legalization consumers get ripped off by poor quality products and have no recourse.
As to Vínbúðin you and I sure many Icelanders herre themselves be surprised to know how it came to be.
The monopoly came because of pressure from Spain. In 1922 they threaten high tarriffs on import of Icelandic salt fish into Spain — big market — if Iceland did not permit Spain wines in.
So Icelandic answer was to have government agnency handle that. And the current system of Vínbúðin monopoly born.
Øystein,
I do have my doubt about this statistic as it probably only shows sale of alcohol in official shops.
For instance , it apparently shows that Luxemburgers are the biggest alcoholics in Europe. However, because of low taxes, alcohol is cheaper in Lux than in surrounding countries. As a result, germans , french and belgians who live in the border region, buy their alcohol in Lux (at the same time filling up their cars as fuel is cheaper in lux too). So it is mostly not consumed by luxemburgers.
Also the statistics from the czech republic are pushed up by german shoppers, just like the statistics for Belgium are pushed up by UK citizens who often only take the ferry to Belgium for alco-shopping.
In fact much of the alcohol-sale in countries bordering scandinavia (the baltic states, but also northern Germany-have you ever seen the amount of booze-shops between Flensburg and the danish border?) is acocunted for by scandinavian alcoholics.
I have seen this myself when I visited Estonia. During weekends Tallinn is full of scandinavians who only come here to get drunk and buy large amounts of booze befroe returning.
Please have a look at this site of the WHO with detailed analysis of the different countries.
http://www.who.int/substance_abuse/publications/statusreportalcoholeuro/en/index.html
It mentions that HOMEMADE alcoholics are a very important element in scandinavian countries, while this is not shown in the official statistics (and much more dangerous than good quality booze, bought in an official shop). Homemade stuff is hardly consumed here since it is possible to buy decent booze at reasonable prices.
I absolutely do not believe that the most alcoholic country in the world (Mother Russia) is somewhere in the middle, according to this statistic. But offcourse here too homebrew (Samogon) is not accounted for.
Personally I think that a restrictive policy of the state towards its citizens regarding alcohol, drugs and sex will only lead to citizens seeking these things abroad in a much more extreme manner than they would do if it were allowed at home.
Scandinavians overhere usually immediately run into a bar, a sex shop or a coffee shop (I do have certain memories of swedish girls who came to my hometown when I studied myself which I will not write down here …)…and I am fine with that since they spend money which benefits our economy .
I do think a law that makes buying sex abroad illegal to norwegians is ridiculous. How is this law to be policed? Will the norwegian secret service keep an eye on the red light district in Amsterdam? Will they ask visitors of this district for their passports, will norwegians at Oslo airport be searched for condoms? just wondering.
In Holland we do have a law that makes pedophilia abroad punishable by law: some perverts who had sex with children in poor asian countries were sent to prison and that is a good thing. However, adults who choose to sell themselves make a deliberate choice and I have no problem with that.
There are quite a lot of dutch who emigrate to Norway and there are good reasons for that: the standard of living in Norway is higher and many people here are sick and tired of overpopulation and crime. There are underpopulated regions in Norway where there is a shortage of experts: teachers, nurses, physicians and they advertise here in Holland for such people.
Government should get out of people’s lives. There is nothing wrong if a person wants to dance naked or sell themselves to make money, that is their decision. it is their body. Nothing should be illegal. Striptease, prostitution and drugs should be legalized. If they want to do it, that is their choice and also their responsibility if something goes wrong. Everything should be fair, it parallels the logic of killing an innocent human being by abortion but you cannot execute a murderer and rapist because you have to protect their human rights. Everything should be legal if it is a personal choice. And everybody enjoys a striptease dance and some sex too. I know I enjoy it. It one way to relax in these troubled times caused by the same people who want it banned. Be free people. Spread the love, but you have to pay baby. Times are hard right now. Love you all.
God article abot things that REALLY matter.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/iris-lee/elections-in-iceland-the_b_188517.html
@Niels – here is a statistics of alchohol consumptions in Europe – as I read it – you drink much more than me, the Swedes and Icelanders ;-)
http://www.helsedirektoratet.no/rusmidler/fakta_om_alkohol/alkoholforbruk_i_europa_5513
(it is Norwegian – but I think you understand)
The Wine monopoly is a good institution. The prices are ment for Norwegians. We havw a good democracy here – so it is up to us to decide what we want.
I will go to Amsterdam in the end of the month. As you said – the state know what is best for us – so from this year the goverment has decided the the Norwegians are not allowed tu buy sex anywhere – even not in the red light district :-) – You are allowed to sell sex in Norway, but you are not allowed to buy it. But we still “buy” people from Netherland – http://www.norsk.nl
@Alexander
Come on grow up, let it go with the CAPS, he likes or has to use CAPS you like male streepers -(“AH! And what about men striptese?”)It´s your choice and so is his hith the CAPS.
Hi Gus,
Sometimes the scandinavian attitude of “the state knows what is good for you’ puzzles me. Apparently they lower the amount to be subtracted from ATM’s at night, being affraid that the money subtracted will be spent on girls, striptease and champagne…
If you want to buy a bottle of wine you are supposed to go to some lousy state shop, very expensive , with a poor choice, yet in scandinavian countries alcoholism is a bigger problem than in western Europe where you can buy as much alcohol as you want for much lower prices.
Iceland has such state shops too, yet Keflavik is the only airport I know where you can buy alcoholic drinks on ARRIVAL.
AFAIK icelandic kids produce their own booze, really dangerous stuff, running the risk to injure themselves very badly by drinking it….just because the state wants to make it difficult for them to obtain booze from an ordinary shop.
I haven’t been on a “Runtur” in Reykjavik but I have heard that there are few other events in this world where similar feats of alcoholism are to be witnessed.
In Holland it is quite easy to buy marihuana. I did this twice when I was a schoolkid, I smoked it, found it nothing special and never bought it again: that was my whole experience with drugs.
I am sure that in countries with stricter rules people will use it much more, just BECAUSE it is illegal/hard to get.
As a schoolkid I once spent my holiday with some friends on a camping in Germany. We did not have much money but had a great time.
One day a very large group of swedish kids came to this camping. They all looked similar, very blond, very tall, very healthy, and they had a lot of money.
When they noticed we were from Holland they came to us with very hungry eyes, just like they had missed something during their whole previous life.
They asked us: you are from Holland, do you have WEED??
We had an idea and said: yeah off course, how about some joints, 5 DM a piece (quite a lot of money, I am talking about 25 years ago)?
Without arguing about the price they immediately agreed.
We went to some quiet place where we roled some cigarettes. To the tobacco we added some dry grass which we picked up from a nearby field. We also p**d on the cigarettes and dried them in the sun.
Then we went back to these swedish kids and sold them these great ‘joints’ for 5 DM a piece.
These swedes immediately started smoking, very fanatically.
We asked them: is it good stuff??
“Yeah, it is great!!”
“So you are getting high already?”
“Yeah, we are getting high!”
We laughed, laughed and went to the nearest town, having a great time from their money!
Icelanders should definitely ban striptease, it will stop striptease, prostitution and any other form of social decay for sure….NOT.
ONLY A MISERABLE PERSON CAN MAKE FUN OF OR TRY TO MAKE OTHERS LOOL BAD OR REST CREDIBILITY TO THEM ON THE BASE OF THEIR DISABILITY.
SUCH HUMAN BEHAVIOR IS DISGUSTING.
ALEXANDER SAID:” And editors are in their full rights to stand for anything. ”
MAYBE, BUT I DON´T THINK IT WOULD BE FAIR TO STAND FOR DISCRIMINATION, AND FOR INTOLERANT BEHAVIOR AS YOURS.
“But I assume you are also OK if I skip your CAPS? And if this is what you want – you’re doing a great job :-)”
WHAT I WANT IS THAT YOU STOP TO TRY ENDLESSLY TO ANOY ME OR THE EDITORS BECAUSE I AM USING CAPS. THEY LET ME AND IT SEEMS TO BE OK.
AND NOW PLEASE, ANYTIME YOU COMMENT, IF YOU WANT TO MAKE REFERENCE OR COMMENT ABOUT MY POST, PLEASE, MAKE COMMENT IN LINE WITH THE ARTICLE AND IT WOULD BE ALSO VERY NICE THAT YOU COULD DEFEND YOUR POSITION OR CRITICIZE MINE WITH VALID ARGUMENTS AND LOGIC SPEECH THAT OFFER SOME KIND OF SOLUTION OF CONTINUATION.
BE RESPECTFUL AND TOLERANT. PEOPLE NEED TO INTEGRATE IN THIS SOCIETY, WHOEVER WE ARE, AND EVERY HUMAN BEING DESERVES DIGNITY AND RESPECT, INDEPENDENTLY OF HAVING ARE DISABILITY OR NOT.
BEHAVE!
I think, It’s absolutely ridiculous..Striptease does not equal prostitution..Striptease is one kind of a visual entertainment. We live in democracy, so all the men, and even women have the right to have this kind of entertainment. There is nothing wrong about it.
As a woman, I have been to a strip club as well, with my male friend, and nothing bad has happened..
I only have good memories.
I think only prude people would like to ban it.
As a foreigner, I would say It would not do any good for Iceland.
GOOD NIELS… NOW THE THING IS THAT THEY SHOULD TELL US HOW MUCH TO SPEND AND IN WHAT??
WELL, TOO LATE!! THEY SHOULD HAD STARTED DOING THAT WHEN ICELANDERS WHERE WAY TOO MUCH BUYING THINGS THEY COULD NOT AFFORD TO PAY AND GETTING INTO UNNECESSARY DEBT!!
THEN THEY SHOULD TELL US HOW MUCH WE SHOULD EXPEND ON CLOTHES, CARS, FOOD, LEISURE, ETC…
HAHAHAHAHAH :D , PATHETIC!!
THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF ALCOHOLICS ON THIS COUNTRY, ALSO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THAT ARE ADDICTED TO THOSE MACHINES OR THE BINGO… BUT DO THEY PROHIBIT THEM?? NOT AT ALL!!!
THIS SOCIETY IS VERY HYPOCRITAL AND TREMENDOUSLY CORRUPTED.
YOUNG PEOPLE SELLING THEMSELVES FOR MONEY IN THE EVENING AND BEING GOOD KIDS AT SCHOOL DURING THE DAY.
PARENTS SPEDING WEEKEND NIGHTS PLAYING POKER FOR MONEY, WOMEN PLAYING BINGO…
LOTS OF PEOPLE USING ALL KINDS OF HARD DRUGS.
WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING IN ICELAND ??
gUs, trY to gUeSs wHy peoPLe “iNVeNteD” CAPS aNd regular LeTteRs. i GUesS tHeY dId iT FOr fUn. :-)
You can type backwards if you wish. I have no problem with that. And editors are in their full rights to stand for anything. But I assume you are also OK if I skip your CAPS? And if this is what you want – you’re doing a great job :-)
Back to “dancing” – yes, it is “Only prostitution and nothing more! They using women!”
But “they” have been doing it for last 10,000 or more. And banning that will just makes it look disappear. But it will be here only in a much worse form.
AH! And what about men striptese?
Fisy,
Really, so the goberment IS introducing a ban on striptease (the article only mentions a survey)? If so it is absolutely ridiculous , especially since there are much more urgent matters to deal with.
as for ATM’s at night, in a previous job I worked at a major bank and had the possibility to check stats of ATM’s here in Holland.
The statistics showed 2 things: number of transactions per minute, and number of ‘corrections’ (people giving in an incorrect PINcode). it was curious to see that the number of corrections, proportional to the number of transaction remained equal (more or less) during the day but went up considerabley after 24:00. Also around 24:00 the number of transactions was usually higher than around 22:00 which seems unlogical since supposedly there are more people around int he streets at 22:00 than at 24:00.
however, both statistics were caused by people going out and needing extra money. the high number of corrections was caused by the fact that many of these people are either drunk or very excited!
The max amount to be withdrawn from an ATM was not lowered at night at all here, quite on the contrary: people are encouraged to spend as much as they want on anything.
FISY YOU REALLY NEED TO READ MY POST REALLY WELL BEFORE COMMENTING ON THEN AND SEE THE REAL MEANING.
I THINK IT IS REALLY SUPERFICIAL TO BAN STREAP DANCE WHEN BY THE OTHER HAND WE SEE THAT THE SAD SOCIAL REALITY IS THAT IT IS INCREASING RAPIDBLY THE NUMBER OF YOUNG PEOPLE WHO START AT A VERY EARLY AGE ( 18 AND EVEN YOUNGER) TO SELL THEMSELVES ( PROSTITUTE) FOR MONEY. THEY DO SO BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY IS A WAY OF EARNING EASY MONEY. MAYBE THE MEDIA HAS ALSO SOME INFLUENCE IN THAT. WHAT DOES SEX MEAN FOR THEM??
IN THE SCHOOLS WE KNOW THAT YOUNG PEOPLE IS USING INTERNET AND LOT OF IT IS RELATED TO SEX. YOUN PEOPLE THAT HAS NO MONEY AND WHOS PARENTS HAVE LOST JOB AND HOMES.. WELL, YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW MANY YOUNG ICELANDIC GIRLS AND BOYS HAVE STARTED ASKING FOR MONEY ON THE INTERNET IN EXCHANGE FOR SEX.
IT IS BECOMING A REAL PROBLEM. BUT, WHAT IS THE GOBERMENT DOING ?? NOTHING, AND, WHAT WILL BE THIS SOCIETYS ANSWER TO THIS?? MAYBE WILL BE SOMETHING LIKE:
GUS YOU NEED TO WRITE IT EVEN IN BIGGER LETTERS BECAUSE WE DON´T UNDERSTAND IT, OR DON´T WANT TO SEE IT, OR RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM EXIST.
FISY, WE CANNOT KEEP CLOSING OUR EYES TO THE REALITY AND DOING THE TYPICAL ICELANDIC THING “ÞAÐ ER ALLT Í LAGI”, EN NEI, Í RAUNINI, ÞAÐ ER MARGT SEM ER EKKI Í LAGI
FISY, I DON´T SEE HOW THE SIZE OF LETTERS CAN BE ANYHOW ANTISOCIAL.
I USE USUALLY A MAC LAPTOP WHERE I CAN MAKE BIGGER THE TEXTS YOU WRITE JUST WITH A TOUCH. AND THAT HELPS ME A LOT TO READ. I DON´T SEE ANYTHING ANTISOCIAL IN SEEING YOUR LETTERS BIGGER SO I CAN HAVE A CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE.
I THINK IS ABOUT THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU DEFEND. I THINK SOCIALIZING IS PARTICIPATING. AND ANTISOCIAL IS WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO BAN OTHERS WHO THINK DIFFERENT THAN THEY DO, OR WHO SIMPLY ARE DIFFERENT DUE TO PARTICULARITIES LIKE DISSABILITIES, CULTURAL IDENTITY, ETC…
IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOU ARE DISLEXIC, BLIND, DEAF, MUSLIM, INMIGRANT, WOMAN OR MAN, OR JUST A GIFTED PERSON. WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT IS THAT EVERYONE CAN PARTICIPATE AND MAKE THEIR OPINIONS BE HEARD.
THE IMPORTANT IS THAT EVERYONE GETS A CHANCE TO PRACTICALLY PARTICIPATE OF DEMOCRACY.
THE IMPORTANT IS THAT WHATEVER THE WAY OF COMMUNICATION, THE SHAPE OF THE LETTERS OR THE COLOUR OF YOUR TYPOGRAPHY, THAT PEOPLE CAN DELIVER A MESSAGE THAT OTHERS CAN UNDERSTAND.
YOU CAN PERFECTLY UNDERSTAND WHAT I WRITE. SO YOU BOTHER BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT WHAT I DEFEND IN MY POSTS.
PLEASE THINK AND REBATE WHAT I SAY… CONDENNING ME ENDESSLY FOR USING CAPS IS SUCH AND OLD THING YOU HAVE BEEN DOING SINCE YOU STARTED WRITING HERE.
THE EDITORS OF THIS PAGE ARE STANDING FOR RESPECT AND TOLERANCE, FOR SOCIAL INTEGRATION AND EQUAL OPORTUNITIES FOR ALL.
On topic then I have to say that who is the one exploit at these clubs.
It no secret that ATM machines at night have much lower limit in Reykjavík because of in 90s so many men going to ATM to get more money for more dance and champagin.

>I do not read that the goberment is actually planning to introduce this ban
Niels afraid Red-Green caretaker government took this as priority in this 8 week or so emegerncy minotrity coalition over these ones:
“At parliament: Increasing interest relief, improving the situation for those who have mortgages, laws on guarantors, agreements on the Helguvík smelter, the establishment of an asset administration association and a more robust system of taxation.
In the ministries: Report for the European Policy Committee, a lending policy for the banks, increased loan capacity of the Institute of Regional Development, more flexible lending regulations for the Student Loan Fund (LÍN) and a plan on more flexible currency restrictions.”
Of course we can be happy that the “more robust system of taxation” ie taxes going up like socalist like it, not on the agenda yet.
Yes they just passed ban of Lap dancing.
And more CAPS let through kills discussion in a posting again.
Come on moderators. Discourage Gus from Swiss of postingin antisocal ALL CAPS.
WHAT IS STUNNING IS HOW MANY YOUNG ICELANDERS ARE ASKING FOR MONEY IN EXCHANGE OF SEXUAL SERVICES, IT IS REALLY BECOMING A PANDEMIC THING… IT IS EVERYWHERE, THEY OFFER THEMSELVES SPECIALLY TO FOREIGNERS, YOUNG STUDENTS AND SO… FOR MONEY.
I CAN TELL THAT ME AND MY FRIENDS HAVE BEEN OFFERED SEXUAL SERVICES SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE KREPPA STARTED.
I MEAN, ONE IS YOUNG, FOREIGNER AND WITH LOTS OF FOREIGN CASH …. YOU GET A LOT OF FRIENDS IN ICELAND AND THEY DO ANYTHING FOR MONEY… IT IS INCREDIBLE… I THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT ENOUGH TO EAT CHEAP AND LIVE LIKE A KING HERE… BUT NOW SEEING THIS ICELANDIC YOUNG GIRLS AND GUYS SELLING THEMSELVES IN THE MARKET… SPECIALLY ON CONTACT PAGES ON THE INTERNET… IT IS REALLY STUNNING!!!
THEY SELL THEMSELVES FOR AS CHEAP AS 5000 ISK, LETS SAY SOMETHING LIKE 30 EUROS…
INCREDIBLE !!!
M, IF THEY BANN THEY WILL USE WOMEN EVEN MORE. WHAT WE NEED IS A REGULATED PROFESSION WITH A DEGREE. SO IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE FOR ICELANDIC GIRLS AND BOYS TO GO TO CERTAIN “DANCING SCHOOLS” AND LEARN DANCING LIKE THAT.
THEN THEY WOULD BE CONTRACTED AND PROTECTED BY THE LAW. THE COULD HAVE AN STIMATE SALARY AND THE SUCH.
BUT IF YOU FORBBID IT THEN IT WILL GO UNDERGROUND AND WILL BE CONTROLLED BY THE MAFIA.
THE SAME IS WITH MARIHUANA, THEY ARE TAKING LOTS OF PLANTATIONS EVERYWHERE IN ICELAND.
I THINK IT WOULD BE VERY SMART TO LET PEOPLE HAVE MAYBE ONE OR TWO PLANTS AT HOME AND USE IT IN A RESPONSIBLE WAY. DOCTORS USE IT IN CALIFORNIA TO HELP PEOPLE WITH DEPRESSION, SO WHO KNOWS? MAYBE IT WOULD BE A GOOD THING AS MANY PEOPLE IS SO STRESSED AND WORRIED ABOUT THE KREPPA.
IF SOMEONE WANTS TO GET NAKED AND GET PAID FOR IT, AND, IF THAT IS BANNED, WELL, THEN ALL THOSE MAGAZINES THAT ARE SOLD WHERE YOU SEE NAKED PEOPLE SHOULD BE ALSO PROHIBITED. BECAUSE THEY SHOW PEOPLE THAT TAKE THEIR CLOTHES OFF FOR MONEY,DON´T THEY…
SO WE COULD KEEP BANNING AND BANNING AND AT THE END WE WOULD MAKE OUR WOMEN WEAR A BURKA LIKE THE MUSLIM WOMEN IN AFGHANISTAN… AND THEN IF THEY DARED TO SHOW A TOE OR A FINGER OUT OF THE BURKA THEN PEOPLE WOULD BE ALLOWED TO PUBLICY STONE THEM TO THEM WHEREVER IT HAPPENED, IN THE MARKET, IN FRONT OF A SCHOOL, ETC…
YESS, LETS CREATE AN ISLAMIC COMMUNIST BANANA REPUBLIC…
HAHAHAHAHA
WHAT A NATION OF MONKEYS REALLY!!
PLEASE GO BACK TO THE RAINFOREST!!
jesus that is ridiculos, we are in 2009, please. Open mind!!
@Fisy
To be totally honest, I dont really care about polls, they are just a tool for popularist goberments to please people, and distract them for the things that really matter, acctually how cares about allowing streepers or not, what a way of distracting attention, this “goberment” which by the way is the same as the las one just with a differnt face, is only trying to please people, keep them happy with little toys while the ship sinks, money for summer school, what money? we dont even have money, only a printer, and laws about streepers, who cares, the Krona keeps sinking 171 x euro today, (with all the restricctions) I was with my accoutant today finishing up my tax report, tha amount of people going bankrupt and companies too is just stagering, I couldnt belive some of the FACTS like 30-35 year old couples with debts of 110 million krona, both unemplyed, and here they are talking about laws against streepers, please, I couldnt care less if somebody wants to take her clothes off for money and somebody wants to see it, I dont agree with prostitution or streepers or art like they want to call it now, but who gives a sh@t about that now.
Let’s bann!Very good.I was working in “Goldfinger”and I know what is it.Only prostitution and nothing more! They using women!
Very good.Let’s bann!I was working in Goldfinger and I know what is it.Only prostitution and nothing more.
If I read the article as it is presented here it seems to be just a (superfluous) opinion poll (apparently there are no other urgent issues in Iceland at the moment).
I do not read that the goberment is actually planning to introduce this ban.
If so they would damage one of the main tourist attractions of the country: the nightlife of Reykjavik.
It would mean less tourists, less income, less jobs. Not good for Iceland at the moment.
I have no problem with the fact that “majority” don’t like dancing. That’s fine. Just don’t go there. That’s it.
Except really cheap PR for politicians I see no other reasons for such “polls”.
I’m against banning this but no one asked me about it. Is this democracy then?
this is ridiculous , iceland is broke, literally, and this ppl is wasting time to pass a law from the stone age.
its just plain pathetic.
Why dont you use that time to teach teenagers in school a little bit of sexual education , that way those high numbers of std such as hepes and many other on such a little poppulation cant keep spreading all arround the nation.
not to mention the need of a large and agressive campaing to help all those alcoholics arround ……..wich by my experience in this country , you spot a few of them on each family you met .
and im forgeting about the security messurments , iceland is changing and the ppl in charge are sleeping and doing nothing , crime is starting to show in this country for the first time in years if im not incorrect. every day more and more … so , i will say , do something about those matters instead , before is to late.
somethint to think about iceland.
>NOBODY you are alone in your fantsy Iceland.
So you like them Easy. But I think not that you or me are talking for whole population of Icelandic people in this area.
And nor is the opinion polls.
@Fisy
NOBODY you are alone in your fantsy Iceland.
>Also, I don’t see how you go from “exercising a democratic process” to “more centralized power.”
I dont.
I go from studying politics/policy of Left-Greens and Jóhanna faction of Social Democrats to more centralized power and higher taxes to pay for it.
It not difficult to see. Even if you not study policies specifically the type of party these is says it all.
You know what Left-Green and Social Democratic partys stand for in politics right?
Who other than me is now getting border of all these opinion polls that pop up suddenly when their is scrutiny of something Green-Red coalition doing?
Yes I know full well what democracy is. It is rule of the majority and without constitutionel constraint it becomes tyranny against the minority by majority.
If uncoerced woman want to lapdance for money or prostitue themself that is their business. If my sister want to do it I try to talk her out of it but ultimately it is their business.
Just as it is their business to decide who is their boyfroend.
Making it illegal force this kind of thing underground and make it more dangerous for those doing it. Compared to prostitution lapdancing harmless and now some girls doing this lapdancing more likely go into prostitution.
And here we had last coalition of Independence Party and Social Democrat passing sensible modification to Almenn hegningarlög ( Penal Code ) about this:
http://icelandreview.com/icelandreview/search/news/Default.asp?ew_0_a_id=272499
So either hard left faction has completely taken over Social Democrat since then — or this come from crazies in Left-Greens.
Wait what? It’s called democracy, look it up. Yes, if the majority wants to ban stripping, then banned it should be (and I think your morality argument fails in this instance: we’re talking people – mostly women – removing their clothes for money here). Also, I don’t see how you go from “exercising a democratic process” to “more centralized power.”
For the ones that want it banned, the survey should have asked “Why do you want it banned?”…
This is most illiberal nonsense Ive heard for long time. But not surprising from crazies in Left Green but Social Democrat should know better.
So if majority want to give death penalty to drug addict then that ok then? Popularity not same as morality.
More to come form Red-Greens if voter give them the chance. More centralized power and higher taxes to pay for it.
Exactly what people in country ++doesnt ++ need right now.
