A 31 year-old chimp named Santino, who resides in Stockholm’s Furuvik Zoo, is generating a flurry of excitement in the scientific community because he has demonstrated the ability to consciously plot and execute plans. While scientists have known for decades that chimps are clever creatures, Santino has forced them to re-evaluate their baseline concerning primates.
Biologists at the zoo watched Santino one morning as he collected rocks and various pieces of debris before the zoo opened, then stored them in a hidden but strategic spot. Just after noon, Santino moved to his stash of rocks and began hurling them at visitors standing across the moat.
“These observations convincingly show that our fellow apes do consider the future in a very complex way,” Lund University doctoral student Mathias Osvath, told the Associated Press. “It implies that they have a highly developed consciousness, including lifelike mental simulations of potential events.”
Santino managed hit a few of his targets, but did not seriously injure anyone; and his ability to plot and carry out a plan stands to shake the foundations of the animal kingdom as we know it. A debate is now raging over whether Santino is just an exceptional genius within his species, or if all primates have the potential to be that smart. Only time will tell, so be nice to the primates you meet.

Thanks for the comment. I agree the moderating standards have been mixed here; but that is because there is such a fine line between what should and should not be accepted.
I deleted the comment in question because it struck me as so hugely off-topic, offensive and without purpose other than to deliberately upset people.
I agree there are similar comments which have been accepted, and possibly the odd comment deleted unfairly – for this I can only apologise.
However, we here at IceNews have decided to redouble our efforts in this field. From now on only on-topic, relevant comments will be approved. It would be great if everybody could bear that in mind!

First let us draw attention to the monkey.
You think he should be put away because he throws stones BACK at people?
Why not educate visitors to the zoo and teach them that it is not nice to throw stones at an animal which is locked in a cage and cannot get away or defend itself.
I mean, a zoo is about teaching people about nature and about being sensible to animals right?
Or is is this an outrageous thought to a nation which hunts whales , clubs baby seal, hates jews and loves hamas??
My country does not claim to be such a shining light to humanity (a big difference to Norway) like yours but we even have a ‘monkey zoo where people walk between the monkeys without trouble. An idea for Norway ,Øystein? We do not throw stones at monkeys.

Now about Gus, like I said, I did not like his comparison between icelanders and monkeys. In my own (limited) experience, icelanders are nice and helpful people and I do not agree with the fact that they are compared to monkeys.
But there are 2 important things:
1-being consistent
2-having freedom of expression
1. To my surprise there have been a ot of previous postings on this forum with the ‘monkey comparison’ and they were not deleted by the moderator!

2. I wish to repeat that I was not impressed by this comment of Gus but if we favour freedom of speech and a consistent application of rules on this forum, the comment should not have been deleted.
Maybe you are not aware of it but I am sure that Gus ‘tested’ Alex by posting something offensive about chinese (I have jewish blood too and I understand these things) .

There is a monkey in a Zoo i Sweden. The monkey has a ability to plot an execute plans. This is a bit funny – at least for a while. Some has been hurt – but if/when this gets a bigger problem, they have to decide if they should keep him or move him a bit away from visitors… Otherwise the visitiors may leave.

This is a very interesting story. It says a lot about simian – and human – nature. Santino’s main purpose in life, other than eating and sh*tting, is to express his anger and get revenge on somebody, anyone. And so it is with humans, who are constantly pre-occupied with small battles to get even with someone else, a completely useless but satisfying activity.
This is particularly true of Icelanders, who over the past 6 months have devolved down the evolutionary scale to the point where most of their mental energy is spent complaining about everything and anyone and thinking about and wishing for revenge.
Santino doesn’t care about making toys to play with, or tools to achieve some purpose, or piling the rocks up in a sculpture. He just wants to hurt somebody.
He could have just thrown his poo. But no – rocks hurt more than poo, and it would be much more satisfying to see one of the rocks crack open the head of some visitor and watch the blood flow.

I did not personally approve the comment in question, but I did personally delete it.
The reason I did that is because it was pointless and offensive Icelander-bashing on a story entirely unrelated to either Iceland or economics. I took issue with all the poor monkeys that used to be stoned by Sir Euro in his Swiss youth. I also objected to the idea that Icelanders are monkeys: that word has all sorts of racial overtones attached to it.
It is my opinion that the comment was made simply to try and upset people and garner attention. Unfortunately, it seems to be working.
Having said all that, I really value your opinions about the moderating on IceNews. We try to refuse as few comments as possible and things generally run smoothly.

Gus has done a lot better.
The moderator should explain why this has been removed. In my opinion it was not outrageous at all.
