Iceland beats Ireland 3 – 0 and heads to the UEFA Cup 2008

The women’s national football team won Ireland 3 – 0, after drawing in Ireland in the first leg. A goal from the Irish player Curtis kept Ireland in the hunt for the seat in the UEFA Cup in Finland, but Iceland shattered that dream  with their impressive 3 – 0 win in Reykjavik tonight, despite the poor playing surface.

The Icelandic goals were scored by Dora Maria Larusdottir (2), and one by Margret Lara Vidarsdottir. Iceland was the better team and only the Irish goalkeeper Emma Byrne kept Ireland from loosing by more goals.

The Icelandic woman’s football team is the first national team from the island in the north to qualify for any major football tournament.
