Iceland is on sale on eBay UK. The start bid was 99p and, at the time of posting, was GBP 10,000,000.00, for more information go to eBay UK. It does not say who is selling the country, but as it is coming from the UK it seems as though an enterprising Brit is trying to see if they can get their money back by selling the country.
eBay is a regular platform for joke auctions, including a ghost in a jar and Elvis’s 50 year-old drinking water (part used). Planet Earth has been sold on the website more than once.
I am a United States Citizen, and I feel for the people of Iceland, and other countries in such dire shape including our own. I hope the Icelandic people just hold on.. times will get better, they can’t get much worse. As for the blame.. let’s call it GREED! Whatever happened to GOD and GUTS? All those greedy bastards playing with currencies! It’s time for the world to wake up and realize that fast bucks mean torture in the end. I’ve said all along, this thing is just another Enron.. just much larger!! And I think I was right!! May God be with the Icelandic people.. just hold on.. it has to get better! And I love your fish!!… John

Maybe Bjork can throw a concert and raise some cash? Just a joke.
Sorry for everyone’s losses. I am a US taxpayer so I know how it feels to be robbed. I am for pitchforks and torches at this point. Our politicians have ignored us. We are run by Goldman Sachs. Good luck everyone.
Well i dont know if anyone else did it but i reported the auction as fraud and shortly after it was removed. i think this whole discrimination against icelandic people is sad. my wife is from iceland and we both currently live in the US. I just cant believe how ignorant some people can be
The citizens of Britain, Iceland, and every other country affected by this global catastrophe are not to blame.
The governments, financial institutions, and everyone else who gambled with the money belonging to the citizens of their respective countries are to blame.
All these attempts to cause ill feeling between nations, are a smokescreen to hide their own incompetence and divert blame.
Please, use your own commonsense. Don’t fall for it, otherwise the whole world will end up at each others throats. We will be the only losers, while those that caused the problems, are safely tucked away from harm…yet again.
The real truth can be found here http://www.davidicke.com please read it, make your own mind up, and if you think the guy is talking sense, pass the link on to as many people as you can before it is too late.
I can’t remember reading one bad word between Britons and Icelanders for many years. Now it’s just gone crazy. Most Britons thinks Iceland illegally stole our money; and most Icelanders think Britain hastended the fall of Kaupthing. Let’s settle it over a game of football and a game of handball…
maybe all you britons do this to us so you can go fishing in our sinking sea. dont be so rude, who knows we can allow you for a kilo of our expensive fish.
Sacrifice that crazy bitch Bjork. It will appease the gods and bring your country back from the brink.
I commiserate all now poor icelanders but I heard it was common in iceland to buy cars and so on per 100% loan – in a foreign currency. How can one do that? 100% loan and defacto variable interest AND variable loan total value? That screams for punishement.
But I think what happens now is too hard, beloved icelanders and crazy funny catastrophic bankers. The globalisation catched you. And Mr. Brown, british banks do not seem to be stable, either.
Btw. I own an empty (since this week, good luck) and frozen bank account at kaupthing, they paid just in time – nice bank.
I like iceland, nice and friendly country (really!), can I buy a part of it? How much do I get for 5000€ ? Or should I wait?
the whole planet is already sold . unfortunately there is no place for eunj , sorry .
Terry it wasnt their fish, they still shouldnt have anything other than 50 miles off their coast line to claim as their own. Its a disgrace.
# Rio…….I did not invest my money in Icesave. If I wanted to invest I would have bought shares. I deposited it with a guarantee from Iceland that that, in the event of the bank defaulting – my money would be returned.
Your Government renaged on this promise
I did not have to seek out an Icelandic Bank. They opened UK offices and heavily targetted UK Depositors.
When the UK took your fish in the 1970’s you sent the gunboats – you have taken our money & expect smiles and sympathy?!
I am having a bit problem understanding the way British government reacting against Iceland. I understand that many of investors made bad choice/greedy choice of investing money over sea, but no one forced them to invest any place. If they were thinking of British economy than they would have invested in British financial institution instead of oversea financial institution. So why does British government reacting the way they are now. investment is a investment. Always comes with risks and simply those of who invested did not react to what they may should have done long time ago.
I’d just like to apologise to all Icelanders for our flat-footed, intergalactically dull, fantastically pompous playground bully of a Prime Minister making Iceland into a scapegoat for his ten years of betting against the future with British taxpayers’ money. He’s a bit upset at the moment, because his historical reputation has gone up in smoke.
“Geyr nú Garmr mi?k fyr Gnipahelli:
festr mun slitna en freki renna.
Fi?lð veit hun frøða, fram sé ek lengra
um ragna r?k, r?mm, sigtíva.”
I don’t know what she was taking, but I can only sympathise with the woman, for foreseeing the advent of Gordon Brown.
