They did it again, first handball at the Olympics and now in woman’s football. Iceland lost the chance to go directly to the UEFA EURO 2009 by loosing to the France team 2 – 1. Iceland won at home 1 – 0 and needed only a draw against the France team to move forward.
After a bad first half it was a much better Icelandic team that returned and it did only take 6 minuttes for them to equlize, a goal scored by Katrin Jónsdottir. But against the game at that time the France football team managed to score their second and also the winning goal. When the match is reviewed in whole it was the better team that won.
Iceland will now have to go through a two game playoff to be able to reach the EURO 2009.
