Viggo Mortensen opens exhibit in Reykjavik

Viggo MortensenViggo Mortensen is more than just a pretty face among the cast of ‘Lord of the Rings.’ In addition to having made a name for himself as the legendary Aragorn, he is also a photographer, singer, artist, poet and speaker of no less than four languages. His most recent series of photographs are part of an exhibit which will be opening at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography.

The Danish-American actor is calling the show “Skovbo” and will display his work at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography between May 31st and August 31st. The title of the exhibit is Danish and means “the one who lives in the forest”.

The title is an apt one for an exhibit which focuses primarily on trees and which uses photography to explore the concept of nature.

Mortensen became famous almost overnight as one of the actors in the movie version of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. He has since turned into one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood, in part because of his work in films like “A History of Violence” and “Eastern Promises”.

Although less well known, Mortensen’s photos were recently published by his own publication company Perceval Press. The book includes photography, poems and paintings by the actor, all on the theme of nature and on the subject of trees.

Mortensen is currently filming a John Hillcoat movie entitled “The Road” in which he co-stars with Charlize Theron.
