Reykjavik ready for 2008 Arts Festival

The months of May and June, with their long days and bright nights, is one of the best times to visit Iceland, and this year’s Reykjavik Arts Festival adds an extra reason to make the trip up north.

The Reykjavik Arts Festival is the largest festival in the country and this year takes place from May 15th to June 5th. The event brings together the best of the nation’s dancers, actors and other performers with musical, theatrical and dance performances taking place at a variety of venues around the city.

During the festival, Iceland will show off its unique Nordic style through ballet shows, opera, plays, live concerts, art showcases and exhibitions.

Travelling artists will also be taking their performances outside the capital, making it easy to tour the whole country and take in its culture at the same time.

Since 1970, Reykjavik has put on the Arts Festival biannually. The event became an annual celebration in 2004 and remains one of the most well-established and highly respected arts festivals in Northern Europe.

The festival’s goal is to promote Icelandic and international culture through all forms of art. Although the main focus of the events is Icelandic culture, both ancient and modern, there are also performances from well-known artists from outside the country.
