Glitnir Capital Market Day 2007 in full swing

Glitnir Around 200 people have gathered at the Hotel Continental in Oslo, Norway, for Glitnir‘s annual Capital Market Day conference. The live webcast and list of speakers can be seen at www.glitnirbank.com

Glitnir hosted the first Glitnir Capital Market Day in 2006 when world media attention suddenly became focused on the Icelandic financial sector and economy. In spite of the tempestuous climate, Glitnir earnings and income doubled from the previous year and 2006 went down in Glitnir’s history as an important landmark.

Glitnir began 2007 with the acquisition of the Finnish financial firm FIM which has now been fully consolidated into the bank’s accounts. In February a new Chairman, Thorsteinn M. Jonsson, was elected followed by a new CEO, Larus Welding, in May.

Glitnir is hosting its Capital Market Day in Norway where the bank has invested extensively in recent months and years, to the tune of approximately 530 million Euros. The financial group is a leading niche player in three global industry sectors; geothermal / renewable energy, seafood and offshore service vessels. Glitnir wants to build niche ecosystems in these three fields by giving businesses the chance to grow through Glitnir financing and its specialty help.

The Nordic financial group holds two international conferences on their niche expertise per year, the Ocean of Opportunities for the seafood industry, and the Steam of Opportunities for the geothermal energy market. Larus Welding said today that he envisages the niches moving up to a third or quarter of the bank‘s business in terms of profitability within the next five years.

Glitnir classes Iceland and Norway as its two home markets. The Glitnir group also has operations in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the UK, Luxembourg, Russia, Canada, China and more recently in the US, in New York. Glitnir is listed on the Icelandic Stock Exchange.
