President of Iceland to attend launch of eco-friendly building in Leeds

On September 11th the President of Iceland will be in Leeds, UK, in order to open Innovate Logistic’s newest office building.

A spokesperson from Innovate says that the building received the highest environmental score from the Building Research Establishment (BRE) of any building in the UK.

The opening will be attended by both President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson as well as  the Icelandic Minister of the Environment.

In addition to opening the new building, Innovate will mark the occasion by launching a new environmental policy at the company. The new policy is designed to provide the transport industry with a blueprint for environmental protection.

Although based in Leeds, Innovate came under Icelandic ownership in February this year when it was purchased by HF Eimskipafelag Islands, otherwise known as Eimskip. Eimskip is one Iceland’s largest companies and provides transportation, logistics and warehousing services throughout Europe and the World.

The Innovate Office project was rated by the BRE’s Environmental Assessment Method or ‘BREEAM’. The BREEAM tool is used to evaluate both old and new buildings and no building has received as high a score than that of the new Innovate Office in Leeds.
