Russians rescued from Faeroese waters

A Russian fishing trawler carrying 35 crew members sank into the ocean while navigating a difficult stretch of water through the fjords half way between Norway and Iceland. All the crew members were rescued.

The Olshana was breached near the Faeroe Islands last Thursday and the ship sank on Friday. The men were all evacuated safely and are being housed in Torshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands.

“They have been accommodated in a local hotel and provided with all necessities. Nobody was harmed,” the Russian Foreign Ministry information and press department said in a statement on Thursday.

The Faroe Islands are located approximately 200 miles north of Scotland and are administered as an autonomous region of Denmark.
