Holger Danske statue may rest in its current location

The controversial sale of the Holger Danske statue which has stood in a Helsingør hotel since 1907 may soon come to a halt. Helsingør Council’s financial committee has reached out to the owner of both the statue and the hotel in hope of keeping the replica of the Danish folk hero in the Zealand community.

Finnish-Russian cultural centre set to open in Helsinki

Officials in Helsinki are to open a cultural centre in the capital designed to help Russian speakers better integrate into Finnish society. Chairman Janna Puumalainen said on behalf of the group setting up the centre, “The meeting place will offer exhibitions, discussion events, films, poetry readings and other literary evenings.

Stone found in English Channel could be Icelandic ‘sunstone’

A crystal recovered from a shipwreck in the English Channel may turn out to be the fabled ‘sunstone’ said to be used by the Vikings. According to ancient folklore, the Vikings used a crystal called sunstone to help navigate during cloudy weather. However, it has long been debated on weather or not the substance actually exists.
