Gay Chinese welcome Icelandic PM’s visit

Iceland’s openly gay prime minister, Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, has received an usual invitation ahead of her visit to China on April 15th. A group parents of gay and lesbian Chinese have invited her to coffee, according to the South China Morning Post.

Parliament turns down motion of no confidence against Icelandic government

A motion of no confidence initiated by conservative MP Þór Saari was turned down in parliament today, with 32 votes against and 29 in favour. One MP abstained while another was absent, according to RÚV.

Iceland industry minster resigns as Left Green Party head

Steingrimur J Sigfusson has stepped down as the head of Iceland’s Left Green Party. Sigfusson, who also serves as the country’s minister of industry, announced the move during a press conference in Reykjavik during which he also said that he will continue working in the country’s legislative body nonetheless.

Iceland MP: opting out of EU accession will be ‘very costly’

Poll: less than 25% of Icelanders support ruling coalition
