Iceland industry minster resigns as Left Green Party head

Steingrimur J Sigfusson has stepped down as the head of Iceland’s Left Green Party. Sigfusson, who also serves as the country’s minister of industry, announced the move during a press conference in Reykjavik during which he also said that he will continue working in the country’s legislative body nonetheless.

Icelandic MP moves to new political party

Asmundur Einar Dadason, the independent Icelandic member of Althingi who resigned from the Left Green party earlier this year, yesterday joined the Progressive Party.

Icesave referendum this Saturday

Steingrimur J. Sigfusson, Iceland’s Minister of Finance, and Katrin Jakobsdottir, Minister for Education, have urged members of their Left Green Movement to vote yes in this Saturday’s Icesave referendum in a column on the party website.

Icelandic government MPs resign

Two members of the Icelandic Left Green Movement have today resigned from the parliamentary party. Both say they will remain in the Athingi parliament as independents and both will remain personal members of the Left Green Movement. The government still enjoys a slim majority.

Left Greens endorse continuation of Iceland’s EU accession talks

Left Greens try to resuscitate Iceland government

The parliamentary group of Iceland’s Left Green Movement will meet this afternoon upon their leader, Steingrimur J. Sigfusson’s return home from the IMF annual meeting in Turkey. The meeting is being described by some as a last gasp attempt to breathe life back into the party’s coalition government with the Social Democrats.
