The head of the organisation which runs Iceland’s airports says that increased safety requirements will quite likely lead to two or three domestic flight destinations being cancelled and the number of flights to others decreasing.

The Danish flight crews’ union has decided to assist the country’s federation of labour unions in its action against Primera Air, which is a Danish charter airline under Icelandic ownership. The federation of unions aims to begin its campaign on 1st February.

Despite yesterday’s news that Iceland was experiencing a mid-winter thaw, a storm hitting the country today is causing widespread disruption and all unnecessary travel is strongly discouraged. Many cars are stuck and at least one electricity cable is down.
