Inuit summit needed to discuss Arctic drilling

Greenland becomes a self ruling nation

Greenland celebrated the beginning of Self Rule from Denmark yesterday. While differences on a daily basis will be few, the move gives Greenland a renewed sense of nationhood and gradually increasing control over its own destiny, including policing, justice and 50 percent of energy and mineral revenues.

No final agreement for new Greenland government just yet

Greenland votes for self-rule

In an strong show of support for the referendum on self-rule last week, Greenlanders voted three-to-one in favour of beginning the process of severing its historic ties with Denmark and striking out on its own. Around 72 per cent of the island’s eligible voters took part, a surprisingly high turnout for the world’s largest island.
