The Latvian capital city has named a new square Iceland Square in commemoration of the fact that Iceland was the first country to recognise Latvian independence 20 years ago.

Iceland Day celebrated in Estonia

Yesterday was Estonia’s 20th anniversary as an independent modern European nation. In celebration there is a weekend-long programme of events; including a festival of all things Icelandic. Iceland was the first country to recognise Estonian independence and the countries remain close allies.

Denmark and Faroe Islands in constitutional clash

The Danish Prime Minister, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, says that the draft of the new Faroe Islands’ constitution is incompatible with Denmark’s constitution and cannot co-exist with it.
