The notorious file sharing site The Pirate Bay tried changing its virtual domain to Greenland in a bid to thwart efforts to close it down. The overnight switch to a .gl domain name was necessary after it became apparent its .se domain might soon be seized by Swedish officials.

The incoming government lead by Aleqa Hammond in Greenland will put the brakes on further offshore drilling for oil. Licences for 11 new blocks in Northeast Greenland, said to contain more than 30 billion barrels in reserves, will not be handed out after the new administration takes office on April 5th.

Researchers have released some fresh insight into the future of global warming, ice melt and rising sea levels. The clue comes via an international expedition conducted in Greenland over the last two winters, in which scientists drilled 2,500 metres below the surface of the ice to retrieve ice and snowpack dating back 130,000 years.

Greenland’s premier has said that the EU won’t be given preference over China as the country seeks to exploit its rare earths deposits. Prime Minister Kuupik Kleist told the media “All are welcome if they meet our conditions and our requirements to operate in Greenland,” the BBC reports.
